Federal Graduate PLUS Loan
Eligibility
- Student must have a completed FAFSA on file.
- Student must be enrolled at least half-time; 4.5 credits or 4.0 credits if you are advanced to candidacy (reduced registration).
- Student must be able to pass a credit check. Students with adverse credit may apply but must have a co-signer.
- Student must exhaust all Direct loan eligibility before borrowing a Graduate PLUS loan.
- Student must be in good standing with the Financial Aid Office, which may be a different standing than with the university.
Requirements
To receive a Graduate PLUS Loan a student must follow:
- The detailed directions for requesting a PLUS Loan.
- All first-time borrowers must complete PLUS loan entrance counseling prior to the disbursement of funds.
Repayment
- Repayment begins on the date the loan is fully disbursed; the first payment is due within 60 days of the last disbursement.
- Payment can be deferred if the student borrower is enrolled at least half-time. A student may defer repayment for an additional six months after they are no longer enrolled at least part-time.
Other Important Information
- If you are denied a Direct Graduate PLUS Loan you may add an endorser or appeal the denial. The endorser application and instructions and information regarding an appeal are available at studentaid.gov
- Interest on a Direct Graduate PLUS Loan will begin accruing at the time of each disbursement.
- There are no annual or aggregate borrowing limits for Direct PLUS Loans.
- Graduate PLUS Loan funds will first be applied to the student’s school account to pay their tuition, fees and other charges. If any loan funds remain, a refund may be requested through the Cashier Office.
