Apply for Financial Aid
Colorado School of Mines uses the results of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to award aid to students. This process begins in January. NOTE: You will need to re-apply for financial aid every year.
Deadlines
-
Freshman/Transfer students:
We must receive a complete, processed FAFSA in our office no later than March 1, 2010 for priority consideration for the 2010-2011 school year.
-
Returning students:
We must receive a complete, processed FAFSA in our office no later than April 1, 2010 for priority consideration for the 2010-2011 school year.
Step 1
Prior to December, 2009, one parent and the student should apply for a PIN (Personal Identification Number) so the student's FAFSA can be "signed" electronically.
After January 1, 2010, file the FAFSA or renewal FAFSA on-line at FAFSA on the Web. It will take approximately two weeks to be processed.
Students are encouraged to send in the FAFSA (or renewal) as early as possible for the 2010-2011 school year, but not before January 1, 2010.
List Colorado School of Mines' school code (001348) in Section H so we receive your data electronically as soon as it is available.
Step 2
After you receive your notification that your FAFSA has been processed, review the results and make any necessary corrections. If you have any questions, please contact our office.
Step 3
Review your CSM Financial Aid Announcement (your Financial Aid Award). Instructions on how to apply for loans, complete promissory notes, etc. are included in the announcement.
Step 4
Be sure to pay attention to deadlines so your money will arrive at CSM when you do!
